LPoCF August Challenge

 Hello again,

Well, we are hoping to avoid a second wave of Covid-19 here in NSW, we are still choosing to stay close to home, so still no little feathered friend for my lonely budgie. I started making face masks this week for our family and used pipe cleaners for the nose pieces, large scraps of quilting fabric for the inner and outer layers, they will all need a good wash, the fabric has been in storage for a few years and of all things the barrier layer is a pillow protector which is made from the same fabric as the government suggested re-usable shopping bag... I can breathe and not fog up my glasses, so a few more are in the works... need to sort out sizes, some need to be bigger others smaller....

Today brings us to an all new Anything goes Challenge over at Lil Patch of Crafty Friends, I have made two cards one of which is in the post... both for Family History Friends one who loves Autumnal Colours and the other for a Cool Climate garden lover... using Corner Roses Pre-Coloured from our Sponsor Fred She Said

Could they not have it set up like other programs... finding the same settings in similar spots... I had to highlight and play with it until I got it to look 'normal'...

Mother's Day

Hello again,

I’m back to share the card I made for my Mum for Mother’s Day, I have gone back to a plain fold card as last year I made a fancy ‘Joy Fold’ card which although pretty, collapsed and couldn’t support its self 😞

I have used a pretty hydrangea stamp which arrived with my magazine subscription to Australian Simply cards, Mum loves the blue/mauve hydrangea flowers and until a large storm butchered and killed our bushes, were grown in the back yard, due to our soil type the flowers were always pink and to get the blue flowers she wanted most required buying ‘blueing tonic’.

This has been the first time I have used my Prismacolor pencils, they  were a Christmas Present from my brother and his craft loving wife two Christmases ago... I will admit being a little scared of them...

After heat embossing, colouring and die cutting the main panel, I decided it was a little flimsy and I die cut an extra piece of stiff card board from a cereal box to help stiffen and straighten it out. One of my papers is very old and treasured; you know the ones you like to collect and look at from time to time but rarely bring yourself to use any… I bought a mixed paper pack from Doodlebug designs when I first bought my Cuttlebug…. Probably 10 years ago or so…

I think this must be a first for me, I’m usually madly making my Mother’s Day card the day before, and this must be a record…. Now just need to find a present…

Here is my card:-

Upcycled cards

Hello again,

I have been playing on and off with some of my new dies I bought from China, also apparently found on various eBay sites, we had a lovely family friend we met when we began following our family tree who suddenly announced that she and her husband were moving interstate, within a week they had gone, she regularly bought cards from me for her family and was always amazed at how different I made them and how personalised I could make them. Given the incredibly short notice we had a thank you card ready, but little else, so I decided to make her a set of 10 cards to send down asap as a little gift. Which gave me the perfect excuse to try out some of my new dies and make use of some of the paper scraps holding a takeover bid of my desk, I found some co-ordinating paper and or cardstock and used some card blanks, I have also cut some small gift cards up I received as a teacher gift some years ago selecting patterns and the images as feature pieces.

Here are the first three of ten, I have plans of making a few masculine cards too.
On the second card I punched out three circles from the card and piled on some Diamond Glaze to create 'enamel' looking dots.

Toothless a Dragon

Hello again,

Today I am sharing a card which required some research, I was asked to make a card for an 8 year old girl who loves a character called ‘Toothless’ now I’m not really into going out to the movies and had no idea who or what ‘Toothless’ was, a little search in Google I found out it was a little dragon from the How to Train your Dragon films, problem now was to find an image or something which I could use I came across a site called Deviant Art where there is a couple of black and white images available, another Google search for handmade cards ‘Toothless’ and a very talented lady Gill Prescott’s blog page with a great punch art card with ‘Toothless’ the dragon on it.

Gill has used a variety of Stampin’ Up punches to create her ‘Toothless’ as I have so far resisted Stampin’ Up products so far, (I do have some on my wishlist) I went through my dies and Gill’s list and selected the best fit using my stash.

I initially inked the edges of the pieces that would lay over the top of others but decided once finished that the dragon required a little more definition and used my white pen to add a fine line around all the black pieces...

Here is my card:-

What I used:-
White card blank
Black embossed paper from my scrap box
White, silver, grey, green and red snippets from my table (does my table sound messy?)
Blue checked paper
Green dot paper

Love Birds

Hello again,

Today I am sharing one of the cards I made for my brother and sister-in-law’s first wedding anniversary, which was almost a month ago... where did that time go?...

Last year not long after their wedding one of my Aussie card making magazines arrived with this very cute and wonderfully coloured image from Ppinky Dolls, called love in the air, which my Mum felt would make a perfect anniversary card for them, as at the reception they had a large bird cage card holder and lots of antique bird cages sprayed in various colours hanging from the ceiling with vines and fairy lights, their wedding cake also had bride and groom birds on it…

Here’s my card:-

What I used:-
14cm Square card blank
Derwent Academy Pencils
Lily of the Valley Bonnets & Bowties paper pack
Silver glitter card
Bella! Droplets
MFT Pierced oval die
Stamp sets various cover gifts & Kaisercraft Mini Clear stamp set
Memory box Sketchbook ‘Love’ die
Pink heart rhinestone

Butterfly Birthday

Hello again,

I was asked to create a special Japanese card for a friend’s Daughter-in-Laws upcoming birthday which needed to be posted to Japan where her and her family are living and working, the request included keeping it as flat as possible and using Japanese paper of which I have several designs my Aunt having bought them in you guessed it Japan while on holiday many years ago (about five years or so ago)… this is what I came up with…

Here’s my card:-

I was lucky enough for my birthday this year I was gifted a year’s subscription to Australian Simply cards and my brother selected an extra gift as part of the subscription, a set of 5 dies including this lovely background die from Ultimate crafts called Jadene: Free Flourish, I used the die a second time to cut the silver butterflies to make them pop out a little more.

What I used:-
White card blank 10.4cm x 14.7cm
Ultimate crafts die Jadene: Free Flourish
Ultimate Crafts die Invali: Vintage label set
Black card stock
Red and gold Japanese Silk paper
Scraps from stash in metallic silver and white
Glitzee Silver glitter glue
Foam Pads
Sentiment stamp from stash
Memento ‘Tuxedo Black’ Ink pad
Black fine line pen

Thank you

Hello again...

Well I was asked to create a thank you card for a friend to give a physio she has been seeing for many years. As always I made two cards so she had a choice, and also because I looked at the first card and decided it needed something a little bit more, it was just to plain for my liking.

I used a freebie embossing folder for the first card and cut away the bottom section and filled it with patterned paper, before adding the flower stamp to the central oval.

So here's my first card:

I added the border from my stash and some bling to finish it off, and then I was happy.

As I was unhappy with the first card I created a second one which I had a basic plan for. I went with a completely different colour scheme and this one looks like the club colours for a team of some sort.

my second card:

As I had a plan for the second card it came together much more quickly than the first one which lay on my table for several days while I thought of some way of finishing it off.

What I used:- Card 1
White 14.8 x 10.5cm card blank
Fancy Flourish Embossing folder and Stamp set (Australian Simply Cards issue 81 cover gift)
Pink card stock
patterned paper from stash
scrap of lilac card
Memento Tuxedo black ink
bling from stash
Thank you stamp from a Bebunni stamp set
Paper border from stash
Adhesives: P.V.A. glue, double sided tape, foam tape
Stanley knife, craft matt, steel rule, scissors

What I used:- Card 2
Blue card blank
yellow card stock
Spellbinders Embossing folder 'splendid'
Bling from stash
MFT pierced Oval die
Butterfly die from Ultimate Crafts Jadene: Happy Thoughts Butterfly set
White card stock from scraps
Printed sentiment
Corrugated card
mulberry paper flowers from stash
Adhesives: P.V.A. glue, double sided tape, foam tape
Stanley knife, craft matt, steel rule, scissors

Case-ing Ourselves

Hello again,

Well this fortnight over at Case-ing Christmas challenge they have been celebrating Christmas in July with a fabulous blog hop featuring some gorgeous cards made with stamps in both real and digital form from a very kind group of sponsors.

The challenge this time is to case ourselves using a card we have made for another occasion, not Christmas, which I have a limited supply. I eventually decided on this card which was made for a lovely friend whom we met whilst doing our family history, her other hobby is quilt making hence the stitchy make. I have stuck with the layout of the card altering use of washi tape, egg braid and buttons to two ribbons (I rescued the sparkly red one from a present last year) and as none of the buttons in my stash are quite so small I switched them for some star sequins. I recreated the style of the sentiment on my computer, the original Happy Birthday one came from Scrap-al-icious-times. The bingo card is from Sweetly scrapped art.

Several blog challenges are also celebrating Christmas in July this week and today's Bugaboo Stamp challenge is a recipe challenge:

Three embellishments: Star sequins
Two Designer papers: Musical Script, Striped paper, also third which can barely be seen behind the image
Ribbon: two ribbons- red and green

Here’s my Christmas version of my Case card

What I used:-
White card blank 12.7cm x 17.8cm (5”x7”)
Faber-Castell and Derwent Pencils
Digital sentiment created on Word
Tiddly Inks Paper pack from Australian Simply Card magazine 2013
Musical note paper from Papercraft Inspirations magazine
Ribbons from stash
Star Sequins from stash
Kraft card scrap
White card
Paper scraps to create poinsettias
MFT-Stitched Circle die
Lifestyle Crafts/ QuicKutz nesting scallop circle die
Marrianne Creatables –Poinsettia with veins
Adhesives- Helmars Tacky craft glue & double-sided tape
